The forecast also indicates that if the track of the system shifts slightly to the northwest, rainfall totals may increase, with lower totals expected further southeast. SCRANTON, Pa. — A cold front moving in from the northwest this afternoon and early evening is expected to trigger showers and thunderstorms from 3-9 p.m. with damaging winds the main threat, though hail and an isolated weak tornado cannot be ruled out.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton issued a Special Weather Statement for parts of Northeast Pennsylvania warning of dry conditions with humidity as low as 25% to 35% and wind gusts of 15 to 25 mph that could fuel rapid wildfire spread, prompting residents in Bradford, Susquehanna, Northern Wayne, Wyoming, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Pike and Southern Wayne counties to avoid ignition sources and debris burning.
