Scranton Braces for Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds

Lackawanna County, Scranton, PA – Isolated severe storms are possible Thursday afternoon and evening, according to a weather alert issued by the Lackawanna County Emergency Management Agency. A cold front will move from west to east across the county, bringing showers and thunderstorms between 1 PM and 10 PM.

The main threat is strong winds, with a 5–14% chance that damaging gusts of 58 mph or higher could occur within 25 miles of a point. However, there is a higher likelihood of gusts reaching 30 to 40 mph, which may result in downed branches or localized power outages.

The alert notes that heavy downpours may lead to ponding of water on roads or in low-lying areas, though flash flooding is not anticipated. Residents are advised to remain cautious of occasional lightning during outdoor activities.

National Weather Service forecasts from Binghamton, NY, support these findings.
