NY State Issues Statewide Burn Ban
New York State has issued a statewide burn ban for Thursday, October 2, due to dry conditions that have increased the risk of wildfires.
The burn ban is in effect as the New York State Fire Danger Rating Areas show various levels of risk across the state. The ban covers several regions, including the Lake Ontario Plains, Southern Tier, Leatherstocking, Catskill, Adirondack, Adirondack High Peaks, Upper Hudson Valley/Champlain, Hudson Valley, and Long Island.
This action follows assessments conducted using data from the DEC Wildfire Predictive Services, which is supported by the Division of Forest Protection and the Division of Air Resources. Weather conditions and fire risk have been analyzed by agencies such as NYS Mesonet and the University of Albany.
For more information or in case of an emergency, residents can contact the 24-hour Dispatch at 1-833-NYS-RANGERS (1-833-697-7264). Additional fire danger maps and updates are available on the on.ny.gov/firedangermap website.
