Buffalo Area Braces for Widespread, Lake-Effect Snow

The National Weather Service in Buffalo, NY has issued a warning that widespread snow will move into the area this evening. The snow, brought by a low pressure system tracking near or just east of the region, will eventually transition into lake effect snow on Thursday into the first portion of Thursday night. The lake effect snow is expected to weaken by Friday morning and will focus on areas east and southeast of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

Snow amounts through Thursday vary by location. For example, Pulaski, Highmarket, Albion, Dunkirk, Jamestown, and Sodus are expected to receive between 6 and 8 inches of snow. Clayton, Watertown, Lowville, Batavia, Lockport, and Buffalo are forecast to receive 4 to 6 inches of snow. Rochester is also forecast for 4 to 6 inches, while Geneva, Weedsport, and Ripley are expecting between 3 and 4 inches. Olean, Wellsville, and Dansville are forecast to receive 2 to 3 inches of snow.
